چکیده
A 22-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of dysphagia to solid food and intermittent spitting of blood for about 1 year. A lateral radiograph of the neck revealed a well-defined soft-tissue mass at the base of the tongue, compromising the oropharynx. After a series of tests, which included CT (Fig. 1) and radionuclide scintigraphy, the diagnosis of lingual thyroid was made. A thyroid profile showed normal levels of T3 and T4; thyroid binding globulin was normal [2]. A selective external carotid angiogram was performed with the view that embolization or partial surgical removal may be required if suppression of the thyroid function failed to shrink the gland to a degree that cured the dysphagia. At angiography, the superior thyroid arteries were absent and the superior laryngeals originated directly

Survey of anatomic variations of coronary arteries is the most fundamental of researches in the field of these vessels. For performing this survey, coronary arteries (CA'S) of 463 human heart cases (gathered from three different surces: 1) Legal medicine center corpses, 2) Cadavers of dissection rooms in medical schools, and 3) CA'S angiographic films from hospital centers) were studied. After ...
متن کاملAssociation Between Left Anterior Descending Artery Length with Coronary Artery Dominance: An Angiographic Study
Introduction: Although left anterior descending (LAD) artery supplies a large portion of the myocardium, the amount of blood supply provided by LAD is depended on the length of the LAD. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the association between coronary artery dominance and LAD anatomic types in patients with normal epicardial coronary arteries. Methods:...
متن کاملAnatomical Study of Subclavian Artery and Its Branches
Background: The branches of right and left subclavian arteries are important in conducting of blood to spinal cord, posterior cranial fossa, base of the neck, thyroid gland, wall of the thorax and abdomen. The routine use of internal thoracic artery as a conduit in coronary artery bypass grafting surgery requires appreciation of the anatomical variations of these vessels. So far, there is not a...
متن کاملAnatomical Variations of Vertebral Artery
Introduction: Vertebral arteries arise from the root of the neck as the first branches from the superior-posterior aspect of the subclavian arteries. They ascend the neck to enter the cranial cavity and supply blood to the brain. Methods: A total of 20 cadavers (in 10 years) were dissected for the study of variations in the origin of the vertebral artery. This study was conducte...
